Catalan multi-talent performs an inimitable mix of flamenco, jazz and experiment
Catalan Raül Fernandez Miró aka Raül Refree is a true musical all-rounder. Aside from being a trail-blazer of the ‘New Flamenco’ movement, many collaborations (from Lee Ranaldo to pop-wonder Rosalía), composing soundtracks, and his work as producer & session guitarist, he has been releasing own work under the name Refree since 2002. During BRDCST he comes to present his latest album ‘La Otra Mitad’. On it, acoustic and electric guitar parts go hand in hand with sampled field recordings, traditional song, and subdued electro. Refree has realised an intriguing and stunning album here, one that is impossible to place into one particular musical pigeon-hole.
tak:til is the brand new instrumental sub-label of superb global sounds house Glitterbeat (see: Noura Mint Seymali, AMMAR 808, Tamikrest ...). tak:til saw the light of day in 2017 with the release of ‘Wood/Metal/Plastic/Pattern/Rhythm/Rock’ by New York duo 75 Dollar Bill. Since then, there have been impressive releases by Širom, Joshua Abrams, Park Jiha and Jon Hassell. The first tak:til label night ever took place last year during BRDCST and we’ve been hooked ever since. So BRDCST 2019 is pleased to welcome Yonatan Gat and the Catalan flamenco-guitarist Refree.
